Brasada Ranch – A Sanctuary in Central Oregon

Breathe in the fresh air and experience the wide-open spaces at Brasada Ranch in Powell Butte, Oregon. Luxurious cabins, guest rooms, and suites provide a beautiful refuge from the busyness of everyday life, and a few rounds of golf, a long horseback ride, or even a few hours at the pool will rejuvenate your spirit. Plan a week-long visit with someone special, a solo adventure for yourself, or a grand excursion for the entire family. Brasada Ranch is an incredible place to come and enjoy the outdoors.

The Property

The sprawling 2,000-acre property was once a sheep ranch, but twelve years ago the transformation into a luxury resort and real estate development became a reality. Today more than 600 acres are developed. The property has blossomed in phases. Director of Sales and Marketing Brandon Sirstins said, “It seems as though each year something new is added. Last year a new studio was constructed for group fitness classes. The year before was the adult pool, and there are current plans for casitas near the adult pool.” Although the resort is relatively new, the reclaimed wood used to construct the barn gives the place a rustic but elegant feel.

The Homes

Real estate at the Ranch is booming. Every home sits on a different level going uphill and faces west, offering each owner a picturesque sunset. Brandon shared, “Over the last year more and more people have purchased properties at the Ranch or are living there for a more significant portion of the year; this has kept us all in an excellent position and carried us through these challenging times.”

The Resort Accommodations

During the summer of 2020 and 2021, a seven-night minimum stay is required at the Ranch House suites and guestrooms and the 65 Sage Canyon cabins. The well-appointed cabins covering over 65 acres feature two to four rooms, fully-equipped kitchens, washers/dryers, and all the other traditional amenities. In addition, many units are dog-friendly, and several offer a hot tub on the deck.

The Activities

The golf course at Brasada Canyons is stunning with scenic mountain views. The course blends into the environment with long immaculate fairways that weave throughout the property around cabins and public spaces. Regulars on the course say that the greens are fast, so practice at the state-of-the-art golf simulator inside before strutting your stuff outside on the course.

Tennis and pickleball courts, heated pools and spas, complimentary fitness classes, a fitness center, and a members’ Peleton studio are all onsite at the Ranch. Additionally, the Range Restaurant & Bar offers live acoustic guitar music every Wednesday and Friday night from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Horses fit right in at the Ranch. Owners and guests can opt to board their trusted steeds at the full-service Equestrian Center which has a spacious outdoor arena, comfortable stalls, round pens, and other amenities. If you don’t own a horse, exciting pony and trail rides are great options. My friend, Connie, and I enjoyed a fantastic “Trails and Treats” ride with a local guide. We ventured out into the snow, traversed the nearby mountainside, and stopped for some delicious hot cocoa and s’mores provided for the ride. Horses maneuver through this gorgeous terrain much quicker than I can on foot. Over the course of a couple of hours, we saw some spectacular countryside.

The Food

The Ranch House serves tasty farm-to-table meals, and the Range Restaurant & Bar provides a more classic high-end dining experience. Relax at the bar and enjoy a glass or bottle of local or international wine or indulge in a delicious cocktail. The burger is delectable whether you order it as is or with no bun like I did.

The majority of edible ingredients at Brasada Ranch are sourced from local farms and regional purveyors. Guests and owners can participate in the farm-to-cabin provisions program that delivers fresh fruits and vegetables to your doorstep. Order by 11:00 a.m. and your goods will arrive the following day. The General Store on the property also carries various staples, beer, wine, and snacks for you to enjoy. Ranch platters are another dining option. Executive Chef Doug MacFarland has orchestrated a dinner package including all the ingredients you could desire to bake or grill a scrumptious dinner in your own home or cabin.

During my visit, Chef MacFarland brought us one of his ranch platters. When he arrived at our cabin, he showed us how to prepare it. Each platter comes with specially selected vegetables and meats, oils, and sauces for cooking, and herbs and spices for seasoning. Next, we chatted over a shared bottle of Lange wine and snacked on a satisfying charcuterie plate and warmed seasoned, grilled artichokes and olives. While we snacked, Chef MacFarland fired up the grill on our deck and prepared the broccoli, zucchini, and cauliflower steaks with olive oil, herbs, salt, and pepper. The ribeye steak prep followed the vegetables. Finally, before stepping outside to grill, Chef MacFarland prepared and served us the house salad made with mixed greens, grilled marinated artichokes, shaved radishes, and a tasty vinaigrette.

The aromas emanating from the grill outside were heavenly. When Chef MacFarland returned, he sliced and plated the meat and vegetables, and we continued our conversation. Chef said, “We try to accommodate special diets here at Brasada Ranch. So if guests give us a little notice and tell us what they can and cannot eat, we can usually tweak our menu to suit their needs. We want everyone to enjoy the food here at the Ranch.”

The Spa

Spa Brasada is open on Wednesday through Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Locally crafted spa products are available for purchase to use during your treatment or to take home. Treatments include a variety of massages and nail treatments.

Brasada Ranch is a fantastic place to retreat from everyday life. Book a trip and leave your worries behind. Dine on incredible food, daydream while gazing at the magnificent mountains, and ride off into the sunset on one of the resort horses.
